- GIN RUMMY CHALLENGE
- Version 7.1, March 1991
- For IBM PC/XT/AT/PS Systems, Compatibles, And Clones
- Copyright 1991 by Jim Cody

-
- John Scarne's "Encyclopedia Of Card Games" (Harper & Row) recognizes Gin
- Rummy as America's most popular two-handed card game.
-
- Gin Rummy Challenge (RUMMY) is a dynamic and elegant way to play Gin Rummy
- against a resident expert (your computer), or against another human player
- via modem-to-modem communications between two computers. A Hayes-compatible
- modem is necessary only for modem-to-modem play. A mouse device is optional.
-
- RUMMY runs on color (CGA/EGA/VGA), black-&-white, or monochrome video
- displays in DOS modes CO40/80, BW40/80, and MONO. Of course, color is the
- preferred mode of operation. From the DOS command prompt or from a batch
- file, you should start RUMMY with command syntax appropriate for your video
- capabilities.

-
- All of the instructions and help you will need are contained within the
- program. The simplest way to play the game is to use a MOUSE or the <Enter>
- and <Right-Arrow> keys to signal your Gin Rummy draw/discard decisions. Be
- sure to read the help screens, which are available whenever the message
- "Press <F1> For Help" appears on a game screen.
-
- If you have a color video display (CGA/EGA/VGA), you will find that playing
- in ZOOM mode is preferable after you have familiarized yourself with the
- features of the game. ZOOM mode may be enabled whenever the message "Press
- <F2> To ZOOM" appears on the game screen.
-
- A sample game save/resume file (RUMMY.GS4) has been included. Simply delete
- this file in order to start your own game save/resume file. If you have a
- save/resume file (RUMMY.GS3) from a previous version of RUMMY, you must
- rename it as RUMMY.GS4 in order to use it with V7.1.
-
- RUMMY V7.1 introduces extended help and diagnostics for modems and data
- communications. When you give copies of RUMMY to friends and relatives,
- even first-time modem users should be able to play modem-to-modem RUMMY
- without hand-holding. V7.1 also features minor improvements with respect
- to the card arrangement algorithm and the computer's playing strategy.
-
- RUMMY is FREE; however, if you enjoy the game, your charitable donation of
- $20 (or more) to the AMERICAN NARCOLEPSY ASSOCIATION would be appreciated
- by the 200,000 Americans who suffer from NARCOLEPSY, a chronic disorder of
- the central nervous system. Please mail your tax-deductible donation to
- AMERICAN NARCOLEPSY ASSOCIATION, P.O. BOX 1187, SAN CARLOS, CA 94070.
